Early Childhood Resources:

The resources that I found to be interesting and very informative to early childhood education are...

http://education.usgs.gov/ I like this website because it gives educators and children of ages the opportunity to build our knowledge in the field.

http://www.ascd.org/publications/educational-leadership/oct12/vol70/num02/Eight-Things-Skilled-Teachers-Think,-Say,-and-Do.aspx This is a really good article on leadership and gives good examples on what is expected from the educator, child and families.

This is another article that I believe would be helpful for educators...

Inspirational Quotes~

"Every early learning program should be staffed by teachers and providers who can and do establish warm and caring relationships with children, tend the fires of children's curiosity and love of learning, and foster their development and readiness for school."
-Marcy Whitebook, Center for the Study of Childcare Employment, University of California at Berkeley

"Of course children benefit from positive feedback. But praise and rewards are not the only methods of reinforcement. More emphasis should be place on appreciation--reinforcement related explicitly and directly to the content of the child's interest and efforts."

-Lilian Katz- Ph D. Professor at University of Illinois

"Passion comes from within us; it cannot be imposed or mandated."

- John Hagel - Pursuing Passion
"When I think of the word passion and the meaning to the word passion, what comes to mind are what are my values, what are my beliefs, what are the ideas that lead me to action, what do I do so naturally that perhaps seems natural to me but may be challenging to others."

-Leticia Lara, LCSW

Personal Childhood Web:

Personal Childhood Web:
My family: They have all individually made a huge impact in my life as a child and an adult..This picture was when my oldest brother graduated with his business degree. Then there is my half brothers Benjamin who doesnt look to happyand Kevin in the orange! Love them! Then my Mom missing the shot lol!

Dad: The most nurturing and caring person that I know is my father Kevin. There is not a single person I know that has made a bigger impact in my life than my Dad. My father is a hardworking man who works as a delivery meat salesman for 14 years now then helps me at my diner on the weekends. I took over the diner over five years ago from my father. Even though I never thought I would be where I am at today with owning my own diner, and going to school for education; none of that would have been possible without my Dad. It all began in 1990 with the store that was on the corner for 10 years. My dad ran this store until 2000. We lived two houses down on the opposite side of the road in a yellow house that my grandfather built in 1953. I remember when my father had the diner, I would go walking down the road and go bother all the help with my friend and next door neighbor Shauna. I remember the days I would go work with my Dad. I loved the time we spent together. Without even knowing it he has showed me how to care about every single individual and no matter how hard your day is, just be blessed with what you have in life. He has taught me that family is so important and their support makes your dreams and aspirations that much better.

My Mom put this in my senior year book...

Mom: Another important person that has been there through the thick and thin of everything in my life is my mother. My mom, Rhonda has been one of the most influencial and caring people to not only me but my brother Brandon as well. The biggest thing I can remember as a child is the fact of my mother always being there. She has a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone that she cares and loves for. My mom would never miss a single game of any sport that I played for. She would travel two hours away just because she wouldn't want to miss her pride and joy play in a game. She was my number one supporter and still is. She supports everything my brother and I do and she keeps me going to keep striving to achieve my goals especially in my education. There never has been a time that she has not made us feel special as a child and now as young adults.

Brandon and I being goofballs. He would kill me if he knew I put this picture up! :)

Brandon: My brother Brandon is the oldest of the four of us. Brandon is my only full blooded brother, even though I consider the other two Kevin and Benjamin just the same. Brandon is 4 years older than myself and has always been so protective of me. Me being the only girl in the family, my brothers have always kept a close eye on me, especially Brandon. This defintely shows how much he cares. Not only was he hard on socially speaking, but he was hard on me to make sure I was doing my best in school and in sports. He always wanted and still does want the best for me and I feel the same about him. It's great to have such a great support system from my brothers. I am trying to pick out one memory that I have with Brandon but there are just so many. I would have to say the one that keeps popping in my head is at the dinner table at my moms and her now ex husband house, Brandon and I would just recite things from our favorite movies like "Billy Madison" or "The Chase" and we would get yelled at for doing it and have to leave the dinner table, but to this day it just brings a smile to my face because we may have gotten in trouble for it, but its a memory that lasts forever in my head. I can truely say I wouldn't be funny and have the sense of humor if it wasnt for my brother. And I believe thats one of my best qualities as a person.

My Gram ma ma

My grandparents- Doug and Betty
Even though they are no longer here with us, they have both have taught me so much of how to be a caring and loving person. Both my grandparents showed me so much love growing up but both in different ways. I can remember when I was sick in school and my grandmother would be there to pick me up, not saying I did this often, but when I did, she was the one always there. My parents both worked 7-3 shift. I can remember how she would take care of me and always give me that same cup everytime. It was a  long red CVS plastic cup with a lid and straw. It was my cup at my "Gram ma ma's" house. When my gram passed away a few years back. I made sure that I got my cup and I still use it to this day. I miss her so much, she kept our family in tact and even in the hard times of everything made everyone realize how loved they are. I can still see her sitting in nook in the kitchen doing her crossword puzzles and making sure when she had toast that every part of that toast was buttered. I can keep going with memories with that lovely lady. Now as for my grandfather. I see so much of me in him. He was a man who was stubborn but always showed how much he cared about his family especially his grandkids. As a child he was so important to me because there was a time frame where we lived with him. My mom and step father sold their house and we were waiting for our house to close, so we had to live with my grandfather for a few months. I loved it! I go to walk to school rather than go on the bus. I got special time with my grandfather even though I didn't really like watching the Yankees especially when I am a Met fan. My grandfather was big into baseball and I feel I have the same passion as he does in softball.  He has taught me that with determination anything is possible especially if you fight and work hard at it.

Mrs Heroth- My fourth and fifth grade teacher-
Not only did I have the same teacher and same class for my 4th and 5th grade but I had the best teacher and best aunt for two years. I am not saying this just because she is my aunt, but she has been one of the biggest influences and reasons why I have wanted to get into education. Yes, as a child you are like I would like to be this some day, and thats how I was. But I can always remember how I wanted to be just like my aunt. My aunt and teacher is still teaching today. She continues to make a difference in every childs life that she comes acrossed. She has helped me so much not just as a child, but as an adult and becoming the teacher that I would like to be. I was also lucky enough to get a 4 month maternity leave position after I got my batchelors and I got to work along the side with my aunt and we worked so well together as a team. I am very thankful for my aunt because I wouldnt be half the educator or professional without her in my life.

My favorite all time children's book is Olivia! I love Ian Falconer as an author and I believe she really discovers in her books that every child can be loved and should be loved. Every child is unique and Falconer shows this in the character of a loveable and energetic pig named Olivia.. I love this book, it may not be the most educational childrens book but this pig warms your heart.

Quotes that mean the most...

There are so many quotes that I love and are so meaningful to myself and others.. I just couldn't post one.. so here is three!

This quote is motivational to children to pursue their dreams..
"First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do."
Epictetus

This quote often makes me feel about how to look at my day.. You make your day and life what it is so go out there and run your life.
"Either you run the day or the day runs you." - Jim Rohn

This is one of my favorites. This quote can relate to not only myself, but my colleagues and students. You can achieve anything if you work hard and believe you can do it.
"The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential.. These are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence. "- Confucius
