From the DEC- Enhancement of Children’s and Families’ Quality of Lives-
1. We shall demonstrate our respect and concern for children, families, colleagues, and others with whom we work, honoring their beliefs, values, customs, languages, and culture.
Every single child, colleague and family is different. As a professional and educator that is involved in ones life for many hours of the day and week, we need to show as much respect as possible to know what their beliefs and values.
From the DEC- Professional Development and Preparation-
4. We shall support professionals new to the field by mentoring them in the practice of evidence and ethically based services.
At one point or another, one is new to the field and needs as much support than any of our collegues. I believe this is very meaningful because as educators we need to support one another and their ideas. Helping one another for example finding resources is a good way to show that you support one another.
From the DEC- Evidence Based Practices-
2. We shall use every resource, including referral when appropriate, to ensure high quality services are accessible and are provided to children and families.
Having as many resources as possible ensures that we have the best knowledge to teach young children. As we have learned throughout our course its crucial as advocates to provide the best resources to families to give the best education possible.
From the NAEYC Code of Ethics- Ethical Responsibilities to Children-
Ideals- I-1.3—To recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each child.
Every single child is unique and is different from one another. As an educator and advocate I look to every child as their own person. I repect all their qualities and give them guidance to continue to be that positive role model as they grow as a person.
I-2.3—To welcome all family members and encourage them to participate in the program.
As an educator, I believe the more the family is involved the more success a child is going to have in the classroom and in life. All families need to feel welcomed and feel that they can be able to communicate with their teacher.
Principles- P-1.10—When another person tells us of his or her suspicion that a child is being abused or neglected, weshall assist that person in taking appropriate action in order to protect the child.
I believe this principle is very important. Every single case is important whether its a bruise on the wrist or a bruise all over their body. We need to be able to protect every child the best as we can. As a mandated reporter, we need to make sure every precaution is being taken care of.
